Activities

Final assessment
Create a book trailer
A book trailer is similar to a movie trailer promoting an upcoming film. It uses plot points and introduces characters, and gives glimpses of the action without giving away major events.
A book trailer is the same. It is made up of images, and even some video as well as music and voice over narration.

This is a link on how to make a book trailer-

Your job for the final assessment of this book is to create a book trailer using iMovie (either on your ipad or using the macs in class).

Here's how it will work:

1. Working in groups of 2-3 you must create a book trailer of between 30secs-2 mins long.

2. Research book trailers on the internet- YouTube is particualrly good for this. See how others have laid out their book trailers. Dont just search for this book- try some others that are in the same genre eg: Percy Jackson (not the movie trailer), 39 clues, storm breaker etc..... try this link too

3. Once you have finished your research you need to write a script. What information do you want to include in your trailer? What characters are you going to introduce? How are you going to convince the person watching that this is a great book to read? You can include reviews, quotes from the book as well as a a basic overview of what happens in the story.

4. Storyboarding- just like a good movie, your trailer needs a storyboard to lay out exactly what you want to happen. Your storyboard should be no longer than 12-15 slides and should include basic images you want to include, what speech will be said at what points.

5. Finding your images- its a good idea to try and use royalty free images- these are pictures that dont belong to someone else- that means you should try to avoid most of the images from the graphic novel of Artemis Fowl. Instead try breaking down your search into basic terms such as 'criminal mastermind', 'fairy' etc. If you include the words 'royalty free' in your search box you should come up with some great useable pictures. Same some of these to your image roll by taking a screen capture or add to your dropbox.

6. Once you have your images you can insert them into iMovie and begin to create your movie. We will go over how to use iMovie in class and yu will be given time in your schedule to complete this assignment, however you may need to complete some at home as well.
